Who We Are
TEAM R.O.A.R. is a fully operational 501(C)(3) charity based, nonprofit organization. We're headquartered, operating and servicing our Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUB Zone) communities of Washington DC, Baltimore City and greater.
Our organization was founded in 2013 by two native Washingtonian brothers. Together, they shared a common vision of socially and economically empowered communities, delivered by the successful leadership of our youth. The two brothers agreed to use education and basketball as the catalyst for such a change, and TEAM R.O.A.R. was born. The emphasis was aggressively placed on building an organization from the ground up that would be unique and unlike any other. To accomplish this, the mission had to be clear, precise and achievable. Moreover, every member within the organization had to be in full agreement and support of our mission. One mission, one team and one community equals successful youth, stronger communities and a prominent tomorrow.
We operate with a Board of Directors (BoD), an Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and our fully dedicated staff (FDS). Our ELT delivers over 20 years of experience in the areas of community services, technology, banking, education and athletics. These professionals and their experiences are used to help mold the foundation of TEAM R.O.A.R. With this foundation, the highest regard for our youth's collegiate and career endeavors is implemented.
TEAM R.O.A.R. has analyzed some of the issues plaguing our communities and more importantly, our youth. We found an overly misguided prioritization on athletics instead of education. This prioritization has communicated the wrong message to our youth and leave very little options to be successful. Our learning institutions are not meeting the needs of our youth academically, period. Nationally, our youth are degraded in the areas of math and reading, especially in comparison to our International youth. The statistics supporting student athletes at the collegiate level reading on elementary school levels are astounding. This cannot be the normality for our youth and the demand for change is now! We've raised the bar of expectations in our organization and expect our youth to meet these expectations. Together with the parents and teachers of our communities, we can mitigate these detrimental practices and reverse the negative impacts hindering our youth.
